Our Show Apartment

A vision of tomorrow's care accommodation

Micasa Fastigheter has created a show apartment in the Tanto service building. The idea behind the apartment is to provide a good example of how care accommodation can look. Project groups will be able to visit the apartment at the beginning of a project to get ideas and inspiration, and thus reduce project times.

The apartment also aims to be a source of knowhow and inspiration for architects, care personnel, students, relatives, and other municipalities. The apartment is fitted out in accordance with the latest research findings and well-supported experience. It will be possible to trial the apartment for a period.

The show apartment resident is "Hanna". The apartment has been customized to Hanna's needs and is furnished exactly like a real apartment, with a home environment as authentic as possible. Hanna is a dementia sufferer and has recently moved into the apartment; she is no longer able to live at home and needs 24-hour care. The apartment should be regarded as part of an assisted living residence for dementia sufferers. Consideration was given to personnel assignments during the project. Technology was installed to facilitate and improve peace of mind, quality of life and privacy for the occupant.

Aiming to inspire

The objective of Micasa Fastigheter's show apartment is to demonstrate how future care and assisted living accommodation may look. It aims to stimulate innovative thinking and creativity, show new products in function, and highlight new building methods.

Background

What is dementia?
Dementia is a collective term regarding the diagnosis of a range of symptoms caused by damage to the brain. Dementia may present itself in different ways depending on the part of the brain affected. Memory is usually impaired, as is the ability to plan and carry out everyday tasks. Language, the perception of time and a sense of direction and place are other so-called cognitive abilities that are affected negatively. Anxiety, depression and behavioral changes may also form part of the pathology. The symptoms lead to dementia sufferers having difficulty in coping with life without support from relatives.

What is an assisted living group home?
Group living is a form of care and assisted living accommodation aimed at dementia suffers. There are also group homes for people with impaired psychological functions, where sufferers usually live in a smaller apartment or their own room. An assisted living group home comprises a small number of apartments with a living room and a common kitchen.

Who decides who gets to live in a group home?
You can apply for group living by contacting the city district administration (applies to Stockholm) or your home municipality.

What does 24-hour care involve and how can a sufferer get it?
People who are no longer able to manage their own meals, personal hygiene or other daily tasks can receive so-called 24/7 care, which means help regardless of the time of day or night.
